Prospex Speedtimer solar chronograph

SSC961P1

$750

Everyday, office, active, travel

A panda chronograph with a sapphire crystal, 100m of water resistance and a solar movement that runs six months in a drawer is the most practical chronograph in this tier. At 39mm with a 45.5mm lug to lug it fits wrists that most chronographs swamp. The SSC961 replaced the popular SSC813 in early 2026 with darker solar subdials and warmer lume, keeping the case and movement owners already trusted.

A solar chronograph that never needs winding or a battery swap, in a compact 39mm case.

What owners say

Since the SSC961 is new, this reflects owners of the SSC813 predecessor, which has the same case and movement. On WatchUSeek they like the legible black hands, the big crown, the slightly domed sapphire and a size that suits a 7 inch wrist, and several picked it over pricier panda chronographs after trying it on. Recurring complaints are the clasp, which many replace with an aftermarket bracelet, the thickness, plain case finishing and a full retail price that feels high next to street prices.
